Reflection
In the process of learning Construction as Alchemy, I began to understand the basic construction, structures, materials and details of architecture. After learning Foundation of Design: Representation, I learned about basic design. And in the last week of studying Construction as Alchemy, I learned that when we design, the structure is like a language conversion, transforming the ideas on the drawings into buildings that can exist in reality.
Because it was the first homework when designing the wall, I learned a lot of new things. I felt the charm of this class about the annotations and the stability of the structure needed to show the design and works. I learned about the relationship between the basic building system and the material. Different structures and different materials are different in terms of endurance, durability, and water resistance. When choosing materials, I need to observe the local area. The environment will be decided.
After finishing these, I feel that I have begun to understand designing structures and resolving construction using the materials of brick, timber and steel.
In the last assignment, I went from considering the environment to build the wall, according to the wall to build the deck and then, able to consider the deck and wall to build the seat.
During the process, my structural thinking has been improved. I think the most useful thing I have learnt is that I can now explore physical measures that quantify length, area, volume, mass, weight and scale and their application to representations of objects
