ASSIGNMENT 2 Rising Action

HOUSING FOR THE FEMALE

GROUP PROJECT

Currently, women and their children make an incresingly large percentage of those in need of secure and affordable housing and we strongly believethat all women, even those with limited incomes, have the right to safe, secure and affordable housing choices.
A key consideration for the development of our project is ensuring safety. we decided to make use passive surveilance. With this in mind, we madeuse of 2 main
strategies in the development of our massing. First, the inclusionof commercial spaces. Not only was this highly demanded by the clients ofour projects, but the inclusion of commercial spaces, especially those thatopen 24 hours, would create a neighborhood that is constantly vibrant andalive.Secondly, creating a plan that is semi-open to the public to be able toimplement the 'eyes-on-the-street'concept.

The site is located adjacent to a public street. we wanted to take advantage 'of this by utilising the traffic to implement the concept of the eyes-on-the-street'. We incorporated thepublic street into the design and placed com-mercial blocks on the side facing the streetto act as a barrier and transitional space be-tween public and residential areas.

We have counted the customer profiles of single women and women with partners in yirp, and their needs are shown in the table. Through the table, we can find that most women think that private space is more important, they value the design of living room and bedroom, most of them are willing to share the space only garden and balcony and no one is interested in shared bar.

Through the development of this new co-housing project in the suburb of Preston, we aim to improve the lives of women in Australia through the provision of housing that is safe and affordable.

Based on those information we designed four different typologies, The pink area in the figure is the public area, and the red area is the moveable partition.
