Module 3 Queen Victoria Garden Pavilion
Our Work
The pavilion is located in the Queen Victoria Garden. In this project, I intend to keep based on the idea of the second project: to create different social distances in the pavilion, to give people a space to choose freely.
Also meet the project requirement: an evening quartet concert for an audience of 30 people and lunchtime seminar with 15 guests + 1 presenter.
Pavilion - Idea
Before designing the pavilion, I have learned some cases. The pavilion I want to achieve needs to have different entrances, which can separate the visitors and provide people with different social distances between the seating areas. So I refer to a three-surface structural concrete pavilion and a pavilion that divides the visitor space with a wooden square structure
Progress - Basic physical System
To make Kangaroo physical system work, need to transform basic geometry into quadmesh (Quadremesh with same edge length)
Need edge to be naked, use nakedpts as anchor to form roof and ground for pavilion
Progress - Form Test
I tested various post positions during this step, and I decided to use three posts to divide visitors, create circulation, and set aside seating positions. And I also found in the test that putting the pillar in the middle affects the vision and walking path, so I decided to put the pillar on the edge
I finally decided on the position of the column and the approximate design of the ground seat. After the discussion in the studio, I decided to leave the ground position empty, and designed three main circulations on the ground, retaining the shape of the edge curve to a certain extent, and The height of the building part at the entrance is reduced to a level where people can pass without lifting feet.
I also tried to cancel the building part at the main entry, but this cannot retain a complete curve, I think it is more attractive to retain a complete ground edge line
Roof shape adjustment
I did some adjustment to the roof shape make overall shape more harmonious with ground shape
The Edge vector: 0.5 makes radius of the column more reasonable, make the pavilion can be built, and it also provides more space for visitors
Pavilion - construction
The material used for the roof is concrete, and the same building material as the building has good integrity. The roof has a certain thickness, it is more reasonable for the structure
The main body of the pavilion is made of continuous concrete board, with good aging resistance, weather resistance and durability
The special-shaped seats imitating the shape of the pavilion ground edge. Seats build with concrete, the same building material as pavilion, the waterproofness of the concrete is good in the open air, also it looks harmonious with the pavilion.
Except inside the pavilion, create dry ground area that the roof can cover,create a stop area as an external threshold. Visitors can stop here for a while or sit down for lunch.
Imitating the shape of seats, leave a flower bed shape on the ground for planting, the landscape design harmonious with the ground edge of the pavilion
