ASSIGNMENT 3 FINAL
The Resolution
BLUR THE BOUNDARIES
Encourages reclusive occupants to cross thresholds, to interact, and to step outside their comfort zones, just by taking a few steps outside their home.
Main Concept
Breaking up large building volumes into smaller clusters creates more chances for people to interact and utilize the ‘in-between’ spaces around buildings for socialization and chance encounters. The gap between the block and the block form the courtyard, through the lineway between the buildings, the central garden is open to the street. The courtyard has both functionality and transportation. Walking through 4 and staying in the courtyard increases the chances of people encountering and communicating.
Use balconies to connect the indoor and outdoor spaces of the upper floors. Provide more communication op- SECTION A portunities between neighbour by adjusting building height and opening balconies.
LOGIC
The living room of the house is facing the public space, Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that residents can see the activities of the public space in the living room, and curtains can be drawn if they want to have more private living space. The bathroom and bedroom are placed in a more private position, and the bedroom will have a window facing the semi-public garden. Neighbors can communicate with each other on the roof while maintaining a safe social distance
The problem of Small volume buildings is that the arrangement could cause buildings to be too close to each other and have no sense of privacy, so considering about the main idea of Blur the Boundaries I have tried a variety of ways to combine building blocks, and the clustered blocks ensure that the views from buildings’ windows are staggered to create a different level of privacy around the blocks. Depend on the different level i can create private and public courtyard around the buildings. greenery is also used to Blur the edge and views, instead of using walls to completely block the sight and circulation.
PLAN 1:250
AXONOMETRIC
Through the plan of site showing There are different public facilities in the site, including not only greenery but also public activity space and cafes. Each building owns their private greenery and public greenery, the circulation is very diverse, and there is no obvious road boundary in the site. I have used Blue-Green to show the moveable thing and black show the Immovable facilities (mostly bathroom and kitchen)
Considering about the diversity of yirp, the typology includes
STUDIO APARTMENT - SHARE SPACE (Suitable for people living alone who need own space but would like to share kitchen and living space) .
1 BEDROOM UNIT (Suitable for couples or people planning to increase the number of family members)
2 BEDROOM UNIT (Suitable for People who have 2-5 number of family members, want more functional space)
3 BEDROOM UNIT (Suitable for people who have a large family, and prefer a quieter living environment)
Basically, every typology has a movable partition, which can help residents to isolate one space and help them to keep their privacy when they have requirement for workspace or rent out.
